Supplementary Information

Scholarships

Academic Scholarships are offered to candidates on entry to the Senior School at 11+ and on entry to the Sixth Form at 16+.  Drama, Music and Sports scholarships are also available at 11+ and 16+.

11+

All 11+ entrance examination candidates are automatically considered for an academic scholarship and therefore there is no need to apply for this particular scholarship. Academic Scholarships awards are given on the outcome of the entrance examination.

Drama, Music and Sports Scholarships at 11+ are awarded on the basis of an assessment/audition held in school within the week preceding the entrance examination.  Candidates must be registered for the entrance examination in order to participate in these assessments.

Scholarships at 11+ are offered on condition that a pupil will remain at Kirkham Grammar School until the conclusion of his/her A-level course.

16+

All 16+ candidates are automatically considered for an academic scholarship, which is awarded on the publication of GCSE results. Further details can be found in the Guide to Sixth Form Scholarships booklet.

Drama, Music and Sports Scholarships at 16+ are awarded on the basis of an assessment/audition, usually held at the end of March each year. Candidates must be registered for the Sixth Form in order to participate in these assessments.

Awards

Each award is made at the discretion of the Head and is tenable from the beginning of the academic year following the scholarship assessment.   It will be held until a pupil leaves the school, provided that, in the opinion of the Head, satisfactory progress is maintained. All awards are subject to certain terms and conditions and it is expected that any awards granted remain strictly confidential between the school and the recipient.

The Head is delighted to meet prospective candidates with their parents, by appointment, at any time before entries are made.

If you are interested in a Drama, Music or Sports Scholarship, please complete a Registration Form and tick the relevant box on the form. The Registrar will then forward the appropriate Application Form.

Bursaries

A number of bursaries are awarded to help those parents requiring assistance with tuition fees and to reward academic merit. In order to ensure the fair distribution of bursary funds, parents who have indicated their interest in receiving financial assistance will be invited to provide full details of their joint income and outgoings to enable the school to determine their eligibility for financial assistance - this information is treated in the strictest confidence. The award of a bursary will be subject to annual review.

Forces' Bursaries

The boarding fee for children whose parents are current members of HM Forces is discounted by 5%.
