Image of 1st & 2nd XV Beat St Peters' Gloucester

Won – 38-3

Kirkham Grammar 1st xv travelled to play former National Schools Champions St Peters Gloucester having not played for two weeks. Not surprisingly KGS were very rusty in the early part of the game and found very physical opponents happy to test them. After settling to the task Kirkham eventually released their backs after some solid work from the back row off Alfie Topping, Will Gargett and Sam Dugdale. Full back Evan Powell took advantage of the space created for him, scored 2 tries and gave Kirkham a cushion to control the match. KGS continued to score after some excellent inter passing from Connor Doherty and Nathan Pope allowed Sam Dugdale to gallop over for the third try of the game. Although St Peters fought back they could not prevent Kirkham from continuing to run in the tries as Will Gargett, Enrique Oranje and Andrew Bulman got in on the act. Final score KGS 1st xv 38 St Peters Gloucester 3

KGS 2nd XV vs St Peter’s Gloucester 2nd XV

Won – 58-0

The 2nd XV responded superbly to a long journey down to Gloucestershire with a thumping win against St. Peters, although some early handling errors stifled Kirkham`s momentum at times. Harrison Ross scored the opening try after some good re-cycling work from the rest of the forwards and then Joe Shield finished off a back row move with much work to do himself after being released down the right by Joe Corkish. By now Kirkham were dominating play and had the confidence to run from deep. One such attack released Siya Tyulu down the left who cut inside and ran fully sixty metres before a nicely timed pass saw Dan Kelly dive over under the posts. Further pressure then brought a Kirkham penalty which was kicked to the corner and from the ensuing driving maul Captain Henry Gouldbourne dived over.

The second half saw more of the same as Kirkham drove home their advantage with replacement Harry Cruickshanks carrying well and Gouldbourne completing a hat-trick of tries. James Allum, a model of consistency in the centre, scored a lovely try as he hacked on a loose ball and then with delicate touch, nudged the ball across the line to score a fine individual try. Elliot Callow rounded off the scoring with another fine effort as he beat two defenders down the left within the 5 metre channel.
