Hockey

U12A v Wakefield (pictured above)

Kirkham Grammar School U12A played with great intensity and moved the ball quickly to create a large number of shots on goal. Great work rate was shown in defence as KGS restricted Wakefield to few clear-cut chances; Faith worked tirelessly in midfield from start to finish. Final score 6-0 to KGS - goal scorers Godbold (3), Kerr, Murro and Hargreaves.

U12B v Wakefield (pictured above)

Kirkham Grammar School U12B started the game well with some great attacking play from Branthwaite and Airton creating several chances in front of goal. Walls and Whittle defended well when required helping to build play through the midfield. Grice made some excellent runs to open up the pitch enabling Kane Long to attack at goal. The chances came but some outstanding goalkeeping from Wakefield kept the KGS side out. Early into the second half Wakefield converted to take the score to 1-0. Kirkham fought back and had 90% of play but unfortunately were unable to convert on this occasion. A great game of hockey to watch from a talented U12 side. Final score 1-0 to Wakefield.

U13A v Wakefield (pictured right)

Kirkham Grammar School U13A beat Wakefield with all five goals scored by Osborne. KGS pressed well high up the pitch and won the ball back in good areas to start attacks. McGarry worked hard to run into the channels to create space for other attackers. Dunne and So worked well together at the back to stop the rare Wakefield attacks. Final score 5-1 to KGS.

U13B v Wakefield (pictured right)

Kirkham Grammar School U13B hockey team played away at Wakefield. It was an early start but it was worth it. The team have worked hard in training in some horrible conditions so were well versed for the chilly weather. There was some beautiful play in and around our attacking ‘D’. Burrows having a glorious game, Thompson, Collins, Jennings and Mackenzie adding to our final score, equally so the defence and midfield worked well to make sure no ball crossed our goal. A fantastic team effort. Final score 11-0 to KGS.

U14 v Wakefield (pictured left)

In a much-anticipated hockey match, Kirkham Grammar School U14s showed off their skills and strategy, securing a solid win against Wakefield. Right from the start, the girls took control, using the whole field smartly. Whittle scored an early goal, followed by Ely's well-executed play for another. Despite the opposition's efforts, the girls dominated with teamwork and coordination. In the second half, the girls kept up the pace. Melling scored a brilliant goal, and Hartley-Smith made an incredible run down the line, passing to Miles for a perfect finish. The opposition tried to fight back, but the girls' defence stood strong, and the goalie made crucial saves. In the end, the girls' triumph was a result of their strong start, continued excellence in the second half, and a resolute defence. The match displayed the team's commitment and talent, with the girls enjoying the game. Final score 4-0 to Kirkham.

U16 Hockey v Wakefield

Kirkham Grammar School U16s faced Wakefield away. Despite a rocky start in the first half due to not playing together for a while, the team displayed impressive teamwork and ball control. Wakefield, however, capitalised on defensive opportunities, leading the way at halftime. The second half saw great defence from Southern and C. Fisher, while Langley's precise passes set up promising plays. The midfield, driven by N. Smith and E. Smith, tirelessly worked to regain control. KGS had numerous second-half chances but struggled to gain a goal. N. Smith and Z. Trend's coordinated effort resulted in a corner goal. Despite the game ending in Wakefield's favour, the girls exhibited exceptional plays, breakthroughs, and solid defensive work. The team's refusal to give up, coupled with their great attitude, added to the overall commendable performance during the game. N. Smith earned the well-deserved 'Player of the Match' title. Final score 3-1 to Wakefield.
