Lancashire Cup Quarter Final

KGS U15s 207-5 (20 overs)

St Peter's HS, Orrell 96-6 (20 overs)

Kirkham won by 111 runs

The KGS U15s continued their unbeaten season with a powerful performance against a strong St Peter's High School outfit. After losing the toss, KGS were asked to do the visitors bidding on a rock-hard track. Straight from the off, Skipper, Stan C and Harry M opened up to get the scoreboard ticking. Stan played some classy strokes, whilst Harry adopted a more agricultured approach which saw the home side storm out to 79 off 7 overs.

Unfortunately, Harry was dismissed after some good work from the bowler, however the incoming Smith just continued the momentum with some good running between the wickets. Stan passed his half century off just 16 balls and continued to play expansively, until he received an outstanding delivery to remove him for a very well made 74 runs off just 33 balls to leave KGS 125-2. Further contributions from Charlie B and Jack DG helped tick things along whilst ensuring Smith passed his half century. With overs running out, Smith sacrificed himself in the teams cause leaving him with a very good 70 runs off 29 balls. The innings was terminated shortly thereafter with an imposing 207-5 on the board.

In response, Oli Y and Charlie B steamed in taking 3 quick wickets to take the sting out of the game at 17-3. However, all credit to St Peter's number 3 batsman who took the attack to the changed bowling, but could never really keep up with the required rate. When he was dismissed for a decent 65 by the swinging Will DK, it was game over and St Peter's closed on 96-6.

The result means that Kirkham will now play in the Lancashire Schools' Finals Day in the hope that they will be the first team in the school's history to win a Lancashire Cricket Cup.
