KGS U14 Cricket Team v Bowland School

The KGS Under 14s (pictured above) have had an excellent start to the season winning their first three matches. After overcoming Bowland School in the Lancashire Cup, the boys have two strong victories against local rivals: AKS Lytham and Rossall School. 

The game against AKS showed KGS' opening batsmen in imperious form with the boys scoring a mammoth 157 for 0 off their 20 overs. Captain, Oliver Yates dominated proceedings with a majestic 103 not out. Kirkham used nine bowlers in restricting the opposition to 85 for 9 for a comfortable win.
The KGS boys followed up this victory with another comprehensive win against Rossall to proceed to the quarter-finals.  Batting first, Kirkham again batted well with Jack Dawson-Gerrard top scoring with 45, closely followed by Ali Shah scoring 43. The team amassed 146 for 7 in their allocated overs before restricting Rossall to 73 for 6. 

KGS U15 Cricket Team v AKS

The Kirkham under 15 cricketers (pictured right) came out on top in the local derby against AKS having been asked to bat first. Kirkham got off to a steady start with Stanley Collinson looking positive ably assisted by Christian Taylor-Tomlinson (27). Collinson soon got into his stride striking four sixes in two overs in a quick fire 49 as Tomlinson pushed ones and twos to keep the score ticking over. Collinson departed for 49 but Theo Smith scored quickly at No.3, compiling a composed 34 before he was bowled trying to accelerate the rate. Charlie Bray pushed on for a fine 30 not out leaving Kirkham on 165-4 after their allotted 20 overs.

The AKS reply stuttered from the start as they were reduced to 4-2, De Klerk and Smith with the wickets. However, AKS rallied and took their score up to 43- before Carey took a sharp catch off Milligan`s bowling. From then on wickets fell steadily as Taylor-Tomlinson produced a 4 wicket spell to rip through the lower middle order, his figures ending as 4-21. Eventually, AKS were all out for 85.

KGS U12 Cricket Team v AKS

WON by 8 wickets

AKS won the toss and elected to bat. KGS' Josh Walker-Basham and Harry Lawson opened the bowling followed by Charlie Robinson and Charlie Oliver. Oliver claimed Kirkham's first wicked with accurate bowling. AKS's opening batsman retired on 30 runs soon after. Lawson claimed Kirkham's second wicket in his second spell, soon followed by Robinson claiming Kirkham's third wicked in his second spell and Oliver Cookson claimed Kirkham's fourth wicket. AKS finished the innings 100-3 off 20 overs. 

With 101 runs needed to will, Kirkham set to work. Lawson and Walker-Basham put together a fine batting partnership, with Lawson retiring on 30 runs. Charlie Robinson took over where Lawson left and soon notched up another 30 runs before retiring and Walker Basham was eventually bowled. James Wileman came in and hit a quick 11 runs, leaving Oliver and Cookson to finish the job. Cookson hit the winning runs in the eighteenth over, bringing the Kirkham total to 102.
