Athletics Regional Finals 14th June

Both the Junior and Intermediate Girls age groups qualified for the English Schools Athletics Association Track and Field Cup Regional Finals, alongside the Intermediate Boys’ Athletics Team. These were held at Robin Park, Wigan on Thursday 14th June. In a top field of athletes, KGS were well prepared and ready for the event.

The morning session started within the field: KGS girls looked strong and competed well producing personal bests in several events. Ella McDonald and Bo M scored extremely well within the Junior Javelin event whilst Talia A jumped well in the Junior High Jump event.

In the inter-age group, Lucy T excelled in the triple jump and was well supported by the rest of the team scoring highly across all field events. At the half way stage the inter team were in 2nd place whilst the junior team were leading the field by a huge 40 point margin.

The second half of the event took the girls to the track. The competition started well with both teams picking up good points within the hurdles events. In the 300m Darcey L scored highly whilst Martha M picked up excellent points within the 1500 metres.

The inter girls finished in 3rd place and the juniors finished as champions leading them to the National Track and Field Cup Final in Gateshead on Saturday 7th July.

Out of 11 teams the boys finished 3rd in a very close competition. The winners were Sedbergh with 352 points, second place Wirral Grammar School with 441 points and Kirkham were 3rd with 439 points.

Kirkham’s top point scorer was Harry B with an overall total of 49 for his performance in the hurdles and pole vault. Will Bloomfield scored highly in the 100m, recording the quickest time of the day at 11.9 seconds. Luca S scored 23 points for his performance in the hurdles and many of the team scored over 20 points in at least one of their two events. This boys achieved the highest team score, by a boys’ team from Kirkham, in the last ten years.

Well done to all involved and good luck to our junior team as they work towards their penultimate goal!

U13 AEGON Tennis vs Bolton Girls’ Division

KGS win 8-4.

With Kirkham second in the league against top of the league Bolton, it was all to play for. Both teams displayed a very high standard of tennis and all of the games were gripping to watch. Ella M secured the first win for KGS winning 6-0. Hattie M won the second game for KGS 6-4. A talented Bolton side fought back and managed to beat KGS twice making the score 2-2. The final result all depended on the doubles games: Kirkham stepped up, Ella and Hattie won their doubles 6-3 as did Bo Madden and Phoebe Caunce 6-3.

Kirkham are now in first position in the U13 AEGON League with one game to go.

KGJS

Kirkham Grammar Junior School J4 girls played in the AJIS Rounder’s Competition at AKS on Tuesday 12 June. Every single girl in the year was given the opportunity to take part and the A team were crowned the plate winners. The KGJS B team, who played A teams, had a much tougher competition but never gave up! Well done to you all and many thanks to AKS for hosting.
