KGS U17 A vs Hutton Grammar School 1st XV
Won – 46-5
KGS under 17's started their season in a positive way beating Hutton GS 1st xv 46-5.The players found conditions hard to overcome in the first half but settled and played some very pleasing rugby in the second half . In particular good performances came from Half Backs Cole Potts and Nathan Wood whilst centre Dan Kelly looked a player of potential. Forwards Blake Snell, Ethan Hall-Lyon, Will Gargett and Charlie Partington all stepped up to the mark. Hopefully the team will continue to improve as they face other schools 1st XV’s over the next month.

Won – 62-10
KGS U15 vs Hutton Grammar School U15
Lost – 22-0
KGS U14 vs Hutton Grammar School U14
Won – 42-0
The short trip to Hutton was a great way to get the second half of the rugby season underway for full strength U14’s side. Captain Jake Merrick and Vice-captain Gregor Anderson were well aware how important this was against local rivals. The dry conditions allowed Kirkham to play a quick handling game and by half time they had scored four tries to nil. Kirkham continued to dominate position in the second half and it was pleasing to see both forwards and backs linking well. Jamie Livermore enjoyed a rare trundle and Rhys Frey made some fantastic offloads out of the tackle. Try scorers on the day were, Tobias Parkinson (4), Joe Medcalfe, Sol Mattatia, Yande Nkonge and Jake Merrick.
KGS U13 A vs Hutton Grammar School U13 A
Won – 30-20
In their first fixture after the Christmas break Kirkham visited Hutton looking to continue their unbeaten run.
The home side started well, using their sizeable forwards effectively around the fringes and deservedly took an early lead with two tries in quick succession. Kirkham addressed their defensive issues and quickly got back in the front foot, with Captain Charlie Reed setting an example for his teammates and asking questions of the home defense. After a period of pressure Kirkham levelled the score with two swift tries of their own after excellent handling between backs and forwards led to space out wide.
After the half time break Kirkham began to create more phases of play and the ball secured by the forwards enabled the backs a useful platform from which to build, allowing for runners such as Wiggins and Hayward to get through the Hutton defensive line on numerous occasions. As the game progressed both sides scored further tries but it was Kirkham who took the victory by ten points after an improved second half performance.
KGS U13 B vs Hutton Grammar School U13 B
Lost – 20-15
KGS U12 A vs Hutton Grammar School U12 A
Won – 35-5
KGS U12 A faced Hutton GS at home on a nice sunny morning. KGS, still full of confidence from their previous matches began well and dominated possession. KGS were working well as a unit in both attack and defence which caused problems for the Hutton side. KGS took the lead early on and kept applying pressure to build on this platform. The final score finished 35-5 to the home side which is really pleasing to see. KGS are starting to look really promising as a team and are looking forward to their final few fixtures of the season.
KGS U12 B vs Hutton Grammar School U12 B
Lost 40-0
KGS U12 B faced Hutton GS in their first home game of the season. KGS didn’t start the game off at their usual high pace and Hutton pounced on some sloppy KGS play in-goal leading to the game’s first try. KGS struggled to pick themselves up from this early setback and some poor tackling lead to Hutton running in 5 more tries before half time. In a really mature way KGS rallied themselves at the interval and the second half was a much more positive performance. KGS were retaining possession better and fly-half Henry Ansell set off on a mazy run and would have scored the halves opening try but for a great tackle by a Hutton defender 2meters from the line. Hutton bounced back also and scored 2 more tries leading to a 40-0 win. KGS should focus on the positives gained in the second half of the match and take those forward to next week’s game.
