Ellis Hollows, a talented percussionist and Kirkham Grammar School pupil, has achieved an outstanding success in being selected to join the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO) for 2026 – the world’s greatest orchestra for teenagers and one of the most prestigious ensembles of its kind.
Following a record number of applications from across the UK, Ellis is one of just 160 young musicians to have been chosen to represent the next generation of exceptional orchestral talent. His selection places him among the most gifted teenage musicians in the country – a remarkable personal and musical achievement.
As part of the Orchestra, Ellis, aged 18, will perform at major concert venues and work with leading professional conductors and soloists, as well as take part in national outreach projects that bring orchestral music to new audiences across the UK.
Ellis said: “I love how percussion is such a diverse and yet crucial part of music. I also love how rhythmically important it is and how you, as a percussionist, can be very much in the driving seat of your ensemble. I hope being part of the National Youth Orchestra can bring a sense of unity and togetherness as people put their differences aside for this same common interest. It is important to show young people how orchestral music can explore so many emotions and ideas, and there are so many things for you to experience. I find this to be something truly special.”
Michael Hodgkinson, Director of Performing Arts at Kirkham Grammar School, said: “This is an exceptional accomplishment for Ellis and a moment of enormous pride for our school community. The National Youth Orchestra represents the very highest standard of youth music-making in the country, and Ellis’s selection is a testament to his talent, dedication and genuine love of music. He is an inspiration to younger pupils, showing what can be achieved through passion and perseverance.”
Ellis has been supported throughout his musical journey by the Trustees of The Lytham Schools Foundation, who said: “We are delighted to sponsor such a talented young musician as Ellis, and help him progress with his wonderful talent."
