Track and Field Regional Finals

Kirkham Grammar School's Intermediate Boys Athletics Team came an impressive third at the North West Regional A Final last Wednesday. St Anselm's College came first with 497 points, Weaverham High School came second with 236 points and Kirkham achieved 428 points. Big point scorers on the day for Kirkham were Stan Collinson and Gordon Ballatyne, both performing well in the 1500m; Max Musson in the 100m hurdles, Josh Sumner in the 200m, Cieran Milligan in the 800m and Charlie Bray in the discus. Stan Collinson also excelled in the javelin and was Kirkham's highest point scorer with a combined score of 43 from his two events.

The Junior and Inter girls' teams both qualified for the Regional A finals at Longford Park. Both teams took to the field event area first and clocked up a stunning amount of points putting them in prime position when moving to the track in the afternoon.  All track events went extremely well for both teams with some great personal best's being achieved throughout the day.  Notable performances from Aimee Harling, Emelia Simpson and Abbie Ely in the junior category, and Evelyn So, Xara Lewis and Raia Trend in the inters, set the teams up well as they approached the final events of the day.

Unfortunately, the inter girls team were not victorious on this occasion but bowed out with their heads held high. However, the junior girls' team were ranked number 1 in the North West resulting in qualification to the National Athletics Finals to be held at Chelmsford International Stadium on Saturday 8 July.

Congratulations to all athletes involved.
