Kirkham Grammar School 1st XI travelled to Oakham School for an England Hockey National Cup Tier 1 cup match last Thursday. The girls were ready to hit the pitch again after their mock examinations and they meant business! The girls dominated for most of the first half with great link- up play within the midfield. Marsh and Milligan were solid at the back and distributed the ball well. The first goal came from a Milligan pass to set Cole free on goal to finish. At the half time break the score stood at 1-0.
In the second half, the girls continued to press with both Merrick's and Hartley-Smith making some excellent runs. A well-won penalty corner allowed for a Cole straight strike resulting in goal number two.
Despite Oakham pressing hard to get back into the game, Jackson made some outstanding saves to keep the score at 2-1 and a KGS victory.
