Kirkham Grammar Pre-School provides every child with a wide range of opportunities, experiences and challenges, with aspirational staff, exceptional resources and facilities, all within a purpose-built setting.

The curriculum and learning environment is thoughtfully designed to meet the needs and requirements of children from Rising 3s to 4 years old. We offer a plethora of exciting activities, which promote each child’s development across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The setting is a hive of activity where children are engaged and happy, whilst being guided and nurtured by our dedicated Pre-School team. Each child’s progress is carefully monitored, and parents are kept informed and involved through regular parents’ evenings, reports and informal daily meetings at the beginning and end of each day, as well as being invited to our Pre-School performances and events.

Our fundamental intention is to offer the best possible environment in which children can flourish, whilst developing independence and resilience. One of our main values is that our pupils are kind to others but also kind to themselves. We also aim to create determined young people who demonstrate a real curiosity for learning. At Kirkham Grammar Pre-School, we sow the seeds for future learning by developing motivated learners that are willing to ‘have a go’ and persevere when faced with a challenge.

We are passionate that our youngest pupils move up through School with strong foundations, a love of learning and achieve their potential. Every member of our Pre-School team are trained in ‘Early Talk Boost’, an intervention programme to support communication and language in the early years. The prioritisation of speech, language and communication with responsive adults therefore underpins all aspects of our curriculum. The child’s needs are naturally always at the centre of our School’s focus; activities to support behaviour, feelings and values also form part of our daily routine, so that every child feels happy, secure and valued.

Within the teaching and learning we stimulate our pre-school children's imaginations and creativity, and our skills and knowledge-based curriculum equips them with the skills necessary for their future education. It is an exciting and ambitious programme in partnership with the ‘Cornerstones’ curriculum, which delivers rich, fun, engaging and aspirational learning experiences, which naturally includes the child’s own interests.

Mathematics is embedded throughout the Kirkham Grammar Pre-School curriculum and daily routines, making mathematics meaningful. This helps our children develop extensive mathematical language and a strong understanding of mathematical concepts. Our approach subsequently enabling them to make a seamless transition to our Reception Classes, where they engage in a Reception-specific mathematics scheme, led by our Assistant Head (Mathematics) and her colleagues.

Meaningful and well-supported play is a crucial part of a child’s development and it is through this that a child can practice, consolidate and extend their learning and experiences. Emotional wellbeing and communication is our utmost priority to ensure firm foundations for future learning, alongside developing self-esteem and independence.

Physical education plays a huge part in a child’s developing self-esteem and self-awareness, and is a key element of what we teach. From the moment they join us in Pre-School, we provide them with multiple opportunities to manage themselves and their bodies in a variety of situations led by experienced, highly-qualified and specialist teachers. Spanish is also taught by a specialist to our children in Pre-School, further enhancing their skill set and cultural awareness.

We are confident that we provide a setting where every child acquires a vast and broad knowledge of the world around them, irrespective of their interests, aspirations and starting point. We look forward to welcoming you to Kirkham Grammar Pre-School and being able to show you in person what we have to offer your child.
