Austin Friars U18 Invitation VII’s Tournament

The KGS 1st VII travelled up to Penrith for their groups games of the tournament. Positive results at this stage in the tournament were paramount as this would mean the team would progress and move up to Austin Friars School for the final stages.

It was always going to be a tough day with top opposition including: Nelson Tomlinson School; Stonyhurst College; Austin Friars; RGS Newcastle; Dame Allan’s; Ripon School; QEGS Penrith and Queen Elizabeth School.

In the group round, KGS scored no less than 10 goals and conceded 0. An all-round positive performance from the whole squad resulted in KGS progressing through to the latter stages of the competition up at the school.

After the Bowl and Plate finals it was KGS’ time to shine in the Cup Final. Amazing performances from Dani Merrick, Amy Merrick, Natasha Hartley-Smith, Jess Cole, Emily Marsh, Libby Baxter and Molly McGuire (in the 2nd half) resulted in a 3-0 victory against a strong Austin Friars side.

Captain Libby Baxter lifted the cup in what had been an outstanding day of hockey.
