Kirkham U14 v Merchant Taylors U14 Lancashire Cup Cricket Quarter-Final on Saturday 15th June

Kirkham U14:                               67-9 (20 overs)

Merchant Taylors U14:                 68-3 (9.4 overs)

On a damp morning at KGS, the U14’s Lancashire Cup run came to an end to a strong Merchant Taylors team. KGS batted first in damp conditions, but after a steady opening stand from Will Smith and Archie Dowds, wickets began to tumble. Dowds made 14 runs including two 4’s, but no other play got into double figures. The opposition bowled with accuracy and potency, and is probably the best bowling attack faced this season.

Merchant Taylors began their innings in chaos, being at one stage 9 runs for 2 wickets, with their top Lancashire player run out without facing a ball! This gave Kirkham hope, but their number 3 bludgeoned 43 quick runs including three 6’s to see them through with plenty of overs to spare.

On Monday 17 June, Kirkham Grammar Juniors U11 Cricket Team played Manchester Grammar School in the Lancashire Pairs Plate Final which was held at East Lancashire CC . Manchester batted first and scored 254. In reply, Kirkham scored 223. A great game of cricket which was enjoyed by all involved.
