Under 12 Jedi’s Rugby Report

The Under 12 Jedis made the short journey to Carr Hill last Friday and came away as winners in a very competitive contest. Played on a small pitch, Kirkham enjoyed lots of possession which saw Fowler and Mathauda surging forward at every opportunity. There were also notable performances from Harvey Barber and Morgan Thomas. Carr Hill tackled bravely throughout and made some dangerous forays into the Kirkham half, most of which were repelled by some ferocious tackling. The hosts did eventually score a try but Kirkham had managed to score three earlier tries and added a final try to win 20-5. This was a great game for both teams to play in, pitched at the right level which meant maximum enjoyment for all involved.

Headmaster`s XV Report – Saturday 8th December

The Headmaster`s 1st XV produced an outstanding performance to beat Merchant Taylor`s 1st XV by a convincing 50-0 on a rough day at Kirkham. The forward pack got to grips with everything Merchant’s threw at them, with the Kirkham line-out functioning well. Merchants scrummaged strongly throughout but Kirkham found a way to combat their superior strength. For Kirkham, three boys scored a brace of tries, Callum McGaughey, Elliot Simcock and Odowe Mkefa, the former was also very effective in the loose turning over the visitors on several occasions. Kirkham scored four tries in the first half, the first by Harry Cruickshanks who carried well throughout the game, Bill Gregory converting all four scores.

The Kirkham dominance continued into the second half with the backs rounding off some superb lead up play, prop Joe Higgins scoring the last Kirkham try from close range. There were some towering displays from several Kirkham players, notably Josh Jones who has improved immeasurably this term and scrum –half Jonty Cope who had his best game of the season so far. Finn and Keir Gordon continue to impress.

U12 Match Report

The U12s took on Merchant Taylors in a game that consisted of 20 minute thirds. Strong performances from Peter McIntyre, Alfie Guthrie & Rory Conlon gave the team a go forward from the off. With 22 in the squad, there was plenty of game time to be played by all the boys, a great deal of rotation took place but didn’t affect the chemistry of the squad with the final score being 55-25.
