1st XI vs Cheadle Hulme

The 1st XI hit Cheadle hard from the start whistle dominating in the midfield and up front. After some excellent build up play, KGS won a short corner which resulted in a great goal from Lucy Treaddell.
Cheadle fought back and it was clear that this was going to be an end to end game. An equaliser from Cheadle got them back into the game with all to play for. More goals came taking the score to 2-3 to Cheadle but KGS continued to press hard. A great shot into the roof of the net from Anna Wilkinson took the final score to 3-3. A very entertaining game from two top hockey teams.
KGS now look forward to their annual trip to Somerset next weekend to take on Millfield School.
KGS U15s vs Cheadle
The U15’s performed extremely well against a strong Cheadle team. From the start the Kirkham girls were disciplined, maintained their shape and defended with real grit and determination. The game was end to end with chances at both ends. However, after a highly competitive 50 minutes the game finished a 0-0
KGS U14s vs Cheadle Hulme
1-0 lost.
Kirkham faced a strong Cheadle side with a game that was end to end. Both teams attacked well and created lots of chances to score. Kirkham had the majority of the shots on goal but the Cheadle defence secured the ball to keep a clean sheet.
As Cheadle broke, they overloaded in the D, Kirkham defended well but conceded a goal making it 1-0 to Cheadle.
KGS battled well and played to the final whistle to try and equalise however, Cheadle managed to keep the lead resulting in a 1-0 win.

The U13s won a closely contested game against Cheadle Hulme thanks to goals from Sophie Birchall-Farr and Jess Cole. A few changes to the team saw many players getting the opportunity to show their skills in new positions. Jasmine Schofield, Maisie Bailey and Martha Millar worked well together in midfield to break up Cheadle attacks, Hennie Thompson and Alicia Threlfall worked hard up front to hold possession and bring their team mates into the game. Lily Harrison and Emily Marsh switched roles in defence and communicated well to ensure Cheadle attackers remained tightly marked. An end to end first half ended 0-0 with KGS just about shading it.
In the second half KGS used the wings more effectively as Jess Cole’s direct running caused the Cheadle defence problems. Some excellent attacking play created space for Hennie Thompson whose shot was well saved before Sophie Birchall-Farr forced home the rebound to score her first ever goal. KGS then went to sleep at the back and Cheadle equalised from a short corner; Anya Jackson was unlucky to be beaten by a deflection right in front of her. However, KGS showed great determination to fight back and after a period of sustained pressure Jess Cole swept home a powerful shot from the top of the D. In a tense end to the game KGS defended well with Sadie Drury and Rebecca Fisher demonstrating excellent positioning and tackling to keep Cheadle at bay to secure a 2-1 win.
It is great to see the U13s really growing into 11 a side hockey and starting to demonstrate the skills worked on in training.
