Pastoral Care
The support and care for our pupils is an absolute priority at Kirkham Grammar Junior, Infant, Pre-School and Nursery. We have a carefully structured pastoral care system and all our staff play an active role in supporting the wellbeing of our pupils. The primary support for each pupil is the class teacher who work tirelessly to ensure the safety, happiness and welfare of every child. We encourage open communication between School and home which allows us to work together in the best interests of each child. In addition to the Deputy Heads, Pastoral and Academic, we have a Pre-School and Nursery Manager, alongside three Assistant Heads. A central principal underlying our school’s pastoral system is that children who feel safe, secure and happy are most likely to achieve.
Our carefully planned pastoral programme helps pupils to develop knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes they need to live confident, healthy, independent lives now and in the future. It is embedded within the wider learning offered by the school to ensure that pupils experience positive relationships with adults and feel valued. Pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of the school and community. Our emphasis on acts of kindness, positive behaviour, growth mindset and manners are key to our pastoral system. Achievement is recognised and applauded in School assemblies, our End of Year Review, by the award of House Points, certificates, and through written reports.
All pupils belong to one of four houses – Fylde, Preston, Kirkham and School. This vertical structure provides extra support for pupils who are encouraged to get to know their peers in all different year groups. Inter-house competitions are arranged throughout the year and the House Point Shield is awarded weekly to the House that has amassed the most points in that particular week. A House Point Cup is also awarded termly.
Service to our community is an important theme and as pupils advance through the school they are provided with many opportunities to develop their leadership and team skills through: School Council (Pupil Voice), Prefects, Librarians, House Captains and Monitors, under the supervision of the Head Girl, Head Boy and the Senior Prefects. Great care is taken as pupils move up through the school with a comprehensive transition programme.
At Kirkham Grammar Junior, Infant, Pre-School and Nursery, we are proud of all we achieve in terms of our pastoral care for our children, who are both nurtured and learn how to nurture others.
