11 May 2022
The Kirkham Grammar School 2022 Sports Day started with some nail-biting preliminary events including high jump, javelin, discus and 1500M. It was always going to be a close competition with Preston House keen to retain the trophy.
Throughout the day, personal bests were smashed and records broken. We saw our First Year pupils take to the track and perform for the first time, whilst we also celebrated our current Upper Sixth pupils competing for the last time in their school career.
It was a great team effort in the afternoon as the full track event began and the whole school, and parents, eagerly spectated. In the sprint events all houses totted up valuable points which were crucial in their final scores. During the middle distance events, competition was tough and whilst weather conditions were good, the level of competition on display definitely took its toll on the athletes.
In the penultimate event of the day, the 4 X 100M relay, there was everything to play for. With valuable points at stake it was crucial that the baton was carried safely around the track.
The scores were in…
4th place – Kirkham House with 603 points
3rd place – Fylde House with 611 points
2nd place – School House with 663.5 points
In first place was Preston House with 694.5 points meaning that Preston keep the Sports Day Trophy for the 2022/23 school year. Well done!
