Boys’ Hockey
After the success of winning the Lancashire and Cumbria Hockey Tournament, Kirkham Grammar School U11 boys progressed to the North West Final away at King's School, Chester. It wasn't typical hockey weather with the sun shining throughout the tournament.
KGS faced three teams: King's School Chester, Manchester Grammar School and Ashbridge School with the boys playing some fantastic hockey, demonstrating their skills and creating some excellent attacking opportunities. The team battled throughout the tournament with some end-to-end games. KGS finished third in the North West.
Hockey Tournament
Last Friday the U12A and B team hockey squads (see photograph at the top of the page) took to the pitch to compete in their final matches of the season. KGS hosted the tournament with Lytham High, SMH and AKS in attendance.
In the A team tournament, KGS took on Lytham first and the girls certainly didn't disappoint. From the starting whistle the girls attacked with Hollie Bailey, Evie Mannion and Holly Schofield peppering the goal. The defence stepped up to help create chance after chance but it wasn't until the second half that Bailey converted from a well-worked short corner.
In the second match KGS took on AKS. AKS took an early lead with a powerful strike on goal followed up with another shortly after. KGS responded with a great strike from Schofield taking the score to 2-1. In the second half both teams had their chances with AKS taking the game with a 4-2 victory.
The final game saw KGS take on SMH. The girls played some excellent hockey converting four great goals with Mannion, Schofield and Bailey getting on the scoresheet.
Overall the girls finished the tournament as runners up! A great end to an amazing season.
In the B team tournament, KGS got off to a flying start against Lytham, slotting the ball away to take a convincing win. In the second game against AKS play was free-flowing but KGS had the upper hand throughout due to Hartley-Smith, Ely and Miles keeping a tight defence. In the latter stages of the game a great run from Ely resulted in a great shot at goal from Whittle who converted to leave the final score at 1-0.
In the final game against SMH, KGS took total control, spraying the ball around to allow for numerous shots on goal. Trow converted the first followed by a further three goals from the forward line to leave the final score at 4-0 and an overall tournament victory for KGS.
