Kirkham Grammar School 1st XI played their fourth match of the National Cup Tier 1 league against Oakham School. The closely fought match saw our visitors’ win 3-1. Well done to all of the KGS girls who battled hard and were unlucky not to convert some of the corners, hitting the post twice.

KGS v Newcastle Royal Grammar – Saturday 20 November
The U14s played against a very strong Newcastle Royal Grammar team. For much of the first half we had to battle hard, we defended with real grit and determination and goalkeeper JJ made some very good saves. At half time KGS were 1-0 down. The second half started much the same but as the game moved on the Kirkham girls grew in confidence and, led by Captain Natalie Smith, started to drive at the Newcastle defence. As everyone pushed forward, Newcastle scored a breakaway goal in the last minute. A 2-0 defeat but a great effort from the team.
The U13A team were unlucky to lose 2-1 to RGS Newcastle in an entertaining game of end to end hockey. 1-0 down at half time, the KGS girls rallied in the second half and equalised through Zara Gilchrist who was outstanding in attack all game. Megan Smedley made a series of impressive saves to keep the scores level and KGS had chances on the break through Libby Sidebotham and Emily Greenwood. Unfortunately RGS scored on the break and held on, despite a late KGS short corner, to win 2-1.
The U13B team won 3-2 thanks to two goals from Niamh Smith and one for Gabriella Pearson. In an end to end match both teams created lots of chances and both goalkeepers busy.
The U12A team won 3-1 away at RGS Newcastle. A quick-fire start led KGS to an early goal putting them 1-0 up. The girls worked well together as a team, moving up and down the pitch keeping most of the possession in the attacking half which led them to another goal. With quicker ball movement KGS were able to secure another goal. The score at half time was 3-0 to KGS. Goal scorers were Ophelia (2) Sophia (1). A slow start to the second half gave RGS an opportunity to score. Philippa managed to save the first goal however, a second shot was taken putting the final score at 3-1. A fantastic performance from the girls from start to finish.
The U12B team drew 0-0. The match consisted of good passing and movement within the team giving KGS lots of opportunities to score. Unfortunately, we were unable to put it in the goal. A good effort from all the girls with Olivia getting player of the match.
