The Boarding House accommodates, between the ages of 11 and 18, 75 boarders including both full boarders and weekly boarders. The House is also extensively used by day pupils for casual or short stay boarding. Resident staff include the Head of Boarding and his wife, the Matron and Assistant Matron and two other members of the academic staff who live in. In order to maintain the highest standards, we insist that the Boarding House is inspected annually by external agencies.
The Boarding House, with its upgraded facilities, adds an international dimension to the school, strengthens its pastoral care and attracts talent from near and far. It is an invaluable asset which adds to the unique appeal and ethos of our school.
The advantages of a boarding education at a school of the quality of Kirkham Grammar School are numerous:
• It nurtures independence in pupils and teaches them to learn to live with one another.
• It provides a stable environment and a circle of friends.
• It fosters self reliance and discipline.
• Prep is organised on a daily basis and supervised.
• It prepares students well for life at university, etc.
