On Saturday 7th October KGJS hosted an U8s tag rugby festival at Preston Grasshoppers on their artificial rugby pitch. All the local rugby teams attended – Fylde, Hoppers and Tarleton – and our good friends St Mary’s Hall.
All teams played four matches in what, for many, was their first experience of tag rugby. The skills on display from all teams were excellent, the atmosphere was fantastic and every player had a very enjoyable morning.
The Kirkham squad was made up of every boy in the year. Freddie Wiltshire ran well and scored some good tries; William Thompson covered every inch of the pitch and scored some fantastic tries, whilst Joshua Wong improved with every game.
Sebastian Clarke was strong in defence and ran well with the ball. Joel Rogers and Shaun Williams worked hard in all areas and improved with every game. Jack Gillett ran well in space and Ellis McNamee-Sloggett was very elusive and worked hard in defence.
Buster Bell-Carr ran and passed the ball well; Sam Smith gained in confidence throughout; Leo Paraskeva ran with real determination and made some important tackles.
After 4 games, Kirkham had won 2, drew 1 and lost 1. It proved to be an enjoyable morning of rugby for both players and parents. This is the last of four tournaments hosted by Kirkham Junior School and we would like to thank our local clubs for attending and supporting us.
Watch out for these stars of the future!
