KGS Hockey v Rossall

U12 vs Rossall School

6-0 win

The U12A team played against Rossall’s U13 Bs on Saturday and managed to put all their hard work from training into their game! They dominated from the start with Hennie Thompson and Emily Marsh making great runs forward creating chances on goal for our forwards. It wasn’t long before Rachel Watson converted the first goal for KGS with a great stroke from the top D. The girls grew in strength with all players working hard as a team when both defending and attacking. More goals were converted throughout the game leaving the score at 4-1 at the final whistle.

The U12B team also had to step up as they took on Rossall’s U12As. Daisy Gibbs and Heidi Aldeen worked tirelessly up front to create chances and converted in the first few minutes. Rebecca Fisher was awesome in the midfield creating space through her movement to allow players to run into a moving ball. The goals just kept coming and at the final whistle to score was 6-0 to KGS. A great morning with our U12s who are developing into great little players! The future is certainly looking bright!

U13 v Rossall

4-1 win

The U13s won 4-1 in a match they dominated throughout. Ella McDonald showed great skill and vision in midfield and created countless chances for Phoebe Caunce, Maddie Gallagher and Hollie John upfront. Eve Gooderham marshalled the defence well and showed excellent vision to play numerous defence splitting passes to the forwards. Anya Baxter, Zara Prosser and Grace Wong all marked and tackled well in a defence that was well marshalled by Darcy Clough in goal; a couple of excellent saves by Darcy prevented a much closer scoreline.

Despite going behind in the first half, the KGS girls responded brilliantly and equalised from a short corner which was converted by Eve Gooderham. Phoebe Caunce put KGS in front with the first of her 3 goals all of which were calmly finished with an accurate push past the Rossall goalkeeper.

U16 vs Rossall 1st X1

This was always going to be tough game but just what our U16 squad needed in the run up to their National Hockey Regional Final Competition next Thursday. The girls started well and made some excellent runs both on and off the ball, Gemma Eastham opened up lots of space in the middle to allow Hannah Mears and Lizzie Coulston through on goal. As well as attacking, KGS had their work cut out in defence. Lucy Barrow worked hard to keep Rossall’s centre forward at bay whilst Esme Ikram cleared the ball down the right hand side of the pitch. Unfortunately Rossall converted first but it was clear that this wasn’t the first or last of the game!

Hannah Mears converted from a corner only to have it disallowed by the umpire for being struck outside the D and shortly followed up with a strike that bounced off the cross bar. Rossall converted a further 3 goals but KGS did not give up. A great through run on goal set Hannah Mears 1 on 1 with keeper, coolly slipping the ball away. The final score was 4-2 to Rossall, a very promising morning from two very talented sides.

KGS U15 vs Rossall

4-1 win

The Kirkham girls dominated play in the first half, totally controlling the midfield and creating wave after wave of attack. The girls were 3-0 up at half time with goals from Charlotte Cross, Lucy Treadell and Anna Wilkinson.

Rossall came back hard in the second half and though we scored more goals in the first half the standard of play from our team all over the pitch was far better and much more of a complete team performance. We created chance after chance and the Rossall goalie made numerous saves to keep us at bay. However, an outstanding goal from Lucy Treadell who started her run from the half way line put Kirkham 4-0 up. We conceded a sloppy goal near the end but a very good all round performance from our girls and a well-deserved 4-1 victory.

KGS U14 vs Rossall U14.

2-0 Win.

After a couple of weeks break, the U14s were raring to go! The team started well and produced some lovely attacking play. Emma Savidge demonstrated some fantastic runs down the right hand side of midfield and managed to score the first goal of the game. Kirkham were now dominating the game and had chance after chance to score. However, Rossall defended well and compressed the D preventing KGS from scoring. Half time went and 1-0 still stood.

Kirkham knew what they had to do in the attacking D to broaden their chances of scoring. KGS listened and now had numerous short corners but were still unable to convert. The girls now showed a great level of resilience and determination and didn’t give up, managing to score a second goal making it 2-0.

A great effort from the girls!

KGS Second XI vs Rossall Second XI.

5-1 win.

After a shaky start, due to no goal keeper for KGS, the girls knew they had to begin strong and apply pressure from the off to secure an early lead. KGS were successful and scored an early goal. KGS had majority of possession and looked dangerous going forward. Kirkham managed to score another goal making it 2-0 at half time.

A big thank you and mention to Emily Cooper the U14 keeper for stepping up to play the second half!

The girls felt positive and were now in their stride and desperate to score more goals. The defence kept their cool, clearing the ball wide to the midfield allowing Kirkham more opportunity to keep attacking. As the game progressed the girls got better and better and managed to finish the game with a 5-1. A great team effort from Kirkham and the game showed again what the girls are truly capable of against a second 11 team!
