At KGS we are proud of our excellent reputation for Drama. Drama is taught in our Junior Department as part of our Creative Arts Afternoon. Within our Infants, Drama is an essential part of our English Curriculum and is taught through Speaking & Listening. Drama within the Early Years is structured around activities that include action rhymes, songs, play and role-play. In addition, there are Drama Clubs for those children who are particularly keen or talented. All children are involved in several drama productions during their time at KGS, the pre-school children produce a Nativity and Summer Play, the Infant children are all involved in a Christmas Play and the Junior children perform in a bi-annual full musical production. Recent productions include Annie, Oliver, Aladdin and Joseph.
Pupils see professional companies perform, both in school and at the theatre. We are also invited to watch the Senior School Shakespearean performances. Performing opportunities are created in assemblies, bi-annual Arts Evenings, Open Days and other School events throughout the year. For the last two years we have been proud to be invited to perform at the prestigious St. George’s Day Festival in Lytham. We also offer a House Drama competition that all pupils are encouraged to compete in. In addition, we offer Speech and Drama lessons, preparing the children for LAMDA examinations as well as local festivals.
