Students are advised to choose subjects in which they have obtained a B grade or above at GCSE, but equally important for study at this level are commitment and self-discipline.
Subjects available are: Art & Design (Fine Art & Photography), Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design & Technology (systems and control Technology or Product Design), Drama & Theatre Studies, Economics, Electronics, English Language, English Literature, French, German, General Studies, Geography, Government & Politics, History, Latin, Mathematics, (Pure Maths with Mechanics, Pure Maths with Statistics, Further Mathematics), Music, Philosophy, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Religious Studies, Spanish.
Applications are welcome from students at other schools. A Sixth Form Open Evening is held in the Spring Term each year for our own students and those considering entry from elsewhere. This gives prospective sixth formers the opportunity to discuss with heads of departments, and current students, the content and nature of the courses on offer.
In the Lower Sixth the majority of pupils study four subjects to AS Level, in addition to a Games afternoon, the opportunity to become NCOs in the CCF and a programme of Enrichment & General Studies courses intended to broaden the outlook and study skills of our students.
In the Upper Sixth most students continue three of their AS subjects to A2 Level, although they may if they wish continue to study four. There is also the opportunity to take up a new AS Level and all take General Studies either to AS or A2 Level. All departments offer additional preparation for Oxbridge candidates.
